Winners

November 14th, 2011

Thank you to all the attendees of the 60th annual Excellence in Journalism workshop and banquet. We hope you not only learned something but also had lots of fun.

Before I post the winners of the Excellence in Journalism Competition, I wanted to congratulate a winner who was accidentally left unrecognized by our group.

J.R. Duren of The Villages Daily Sun, who attended the banquet with his wife, won second place in the Community News Category, Classes A – C with his entries, “Getting into the Spirit,” “Blessings of Adoption” and “April Fools.” Thank you, J.R., for your hard work, and we apologize for the omission.

For all the winners, see below. We can also order extra plaques and certificates for those interested, but please give us time to process and respond to the award winners seeking judges’ comments.

We’ll be creating another newsletter and work on providing more workshops/seminars for our members, so watch for our emails!

Finalists in the 2011 Excellence in Journalism Competition

October 10th, 2011

Thank you for supporting the Florida Press Club. There were many fine pieces of work submitted this year. Whether or not you won, we hope you will continue supporting our organization and join us Nov. 5 in St. Augustine. At 1 p.m., we are holding a writing workshop at the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort and Convention Center. It is free for our members and $5 for guests. Following a break — for you to explore historic St. Augustine, maybe? — we will reconvene for the Awards Banquet. The cost is $45 per person.

Registration is at 6 p.m. while supper begins at 7 p.m. Please choose from the following entrees no later than Oct. 28:

Grilled Flank Steak Southwestern Marinated Skirt Steak with Chipotle Demi glace

Chicken Castillo Served with Pan Sauce, Topped with Jumbo Lump Crab Meat and Grilled Asparagus

Vegetable Lasagna Layers of pasta filled with a variety of seasonal vegetables, topped with a marinara sauce.

A vegan option is available with advance request.

Congratulations to our finalists! Please let us know as soon as possible if any changes need to be made when you review the list below.
